I Pledge UCSD Campaign -- Sign Up Now!

    The I Pledge UCSD Campaign is UCSD's largest student-initiated gift giving endeavor. It allows students to make a positive difference in the future of UCSD by enabling them to donate annually to causes that will improve campus life and offer students new opportunities.

    The purpose of I Pledge UCSD is to allow students to actively take part in philanthropy and in improving their campus and community through an endowment that was created for and by students. The I Pledge Endowment, managed by the UCSD Student Foundation, provides scholarships and large gifts that affect both current and future generations of students, faculty and visitors at UCSD.

    Students who make The Pledge offer to donate five dollars quarterly in return for the benefits they receive below and to help improve the UCSD Community. The funds collected are then invested, ensuring that you will leave a large and lasting legacy to the campus for a small price.

    Why Give? Why Now?

    • It costs approximately $20,802 a year, including books, room, and board to attend college.
    • More than 50% of students receive some type of financial aid and 53% of these students take out an average of $14,000 in loans to pay for their expenses during college.
    • In 2004-05, only 929 of UCSD's 20,339 undergraduate students received privately funded scholarships.
    • UCSD's scholarship funding is one-fourth that of UCLA and one-eighth that of Berkeley.
    • If each student gives $5 a quarter for one year, $183,000 could be provided to students in the form of scholarships.

    Each quarter, the UCSDSF hosts a barbeque on Library Walk where you can sign up for I Pledge and find out more about becoming a member of the Student Foundation.

    How is my $5 pledge collected each quarter?

    Each quarter a $5 Pledge Fee charge is added to your tuition account so that you can pay for both your pledge and your tuition conveniently at the same time.

    How do I disenroll from the Pledge?

    Often times, if you are studying abroad or participating in a university exchange program, you may need to temporarily or permanently disenroll from the Pledge. Please request a discontinuation in writing and send it to our address. Upon receipt, we will have the Pledge Fee removed from your account, effective as soon as the processing is complete.
